SPRING IS HERE!

Say bye bye to winter bliss and say hello to bold colors, strips, patterns and wash-stone denims.
It’s time to shed those winter layers and welcome the over-the-top spring season.

Color, colors, colors! It’s all about colors. Pump up your wardrobe with crazy bright tone neons, electric lime greens, pinks and lavenders. You can layer these colors with neutral tones such as khaki or along with solid prints for an illuminating look. To make an even bolder statement, color block by pairing bright tones one on top of the other.

Print me please! From tribal to animal to floral, prints are one of the biggest spring trends on F/W Spring 2011 runways. “Tip: Do mix and match patterns but try to stick to a maximum of two to three prints.”(Glamour.com) The yearly trend stripes are still one of the biggest patterns of the spring season. According to fashionising.com, “Spring 2011 sees stripes with an unsurprising nautical dominance - but it's a dominance inspired by other key Spring 2011 fashion trends.”

The 70’s are back and in full effect. From the high waist denims to peasant tops and flowing maxi halters, the 70’s glamour are bringing a retro feel to spring fashion. Crochet in shades of blue and pink sands is a great way to add the 70’s vibe to any outfit. For me this is one of the best trends, not only do I love vintage but this trend is so versatile and easily affordable and accessible. Check out thrift stores for secondhand pieces.

The Neo-punk look, a major trend from last year will still be filling the New York streets this spring. Spice up your wardrobe by adding a studded biker jackets like the Burberry Prorsum spiked one seen various celebrities—slashed tops and super short cut-up shorts. Lace is another major trend from last year that will span in the spring season. It’s not only very feminine but also formable. Lace remains chic with delicate, quality fabrics in a variety of colors. Menswear is another favorite spring trend. Pair a white or black tuxedo blazer with stone-wash denims and oxfords for a causal day look.

Whoever says intimates are only to wear under clothes did not know this would be one of spring’s prime trends. Lingerie tops, whether sheer, laced or even floral are no longer cover ups and are making their debut on the outside. In the March 2011 issue of Elle on newsstands now, style Director Joe Zee shows the stars of MTV’s Skins how to add this modern trend to any outfit.
Bright colors aren’t the only one’s making a splash, white is back and is the signal for the new spring season. The summer classic may seem like a very basic color, but can transform any outfit and is a very good way to make a powerful statement. “Flowy fabrics, crisp white buttoned-down shirts, cigarette pants and pleated skirts are sure to please even the fussiest of consumers.”(prague.tv)

The 70’s isn’t the only decade back, the flirty 60’s ladylike wear are here to stay. From the hip-hugging silhouettes to the baby doll dresses, the 60’s glam is giving spring fashion an extra burst of energy. The era that housed British supermodel Twiggy makes a comeback with their full circle skirts and A-line dresses. “Short jackets and slacks create an elegant feel which tunics and miniskirt are schoolgirl cute.” (H&M magazine)

Ladies aren’t the only one looking hot this spring, the spring trends for men are just as bold and colorful. Guys, try a double breasted jacket for an elegant tailored feel or hit the NYC streets in vivid citrus and pinks to make a splash of color. Don’t forget to get a little edgy with a biker jacket or skull patterns.

This spring will not only lighten up our mood and break us from the harsh winter; it will be one of the greatest fashion seasons to remember.

PS. I hope they publish it in my schools newspaper.
